Excalibur (coating)

Excalibur is a tradename for a non-stick coating system developed by Whitford Corporation and introduced in 1993.[1]

The Excalibur coating system consists of three layers of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) applied over a specially-prepared metallic substrate. The substrate is first grit-blasted to roughen it, then electric-arc sprayed with a proprietary stainless steel alloy.[2][3]

According to Whitford, the irregular surface promotes adhesion of the PTFE and also resists abrasion of the PTFE.[4]

Excalibur coating systems are used for cookware as well as in industrial applications.
